Featuring Matthew Russell, trombone and Lauren DeRoller, violin
I was just working on putting in the notes to my first opera, The Final Bid, into Finale and got tired so I ego surfed and discovered this fantastic rendition of my arrangement of A Mighty Fortress (is Our God).
According to the description, this appears to be by the faculty trombones of the Stetson University, FL. Performers are: Kerry Couch, Joey Powell, Rodney Maingrette, Robyn McClure, Emily Nichols, CJ Shafer and Chris Haines (Bass).
This is the version for orchestral brass. There’s also one for British Brass Band and Tuba and Euphonium. Contact Tuba Euphonium Press.
A new opera, A Time of Trouble, with libretto by Rex Deverell and assistance from the Ontario Arts Council, explores the history of the Sisters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul who went on to found Mount St. Vincent University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and their power struggle with the Archbishop.

I wanted to let you know about my Centrediscs CD release party of Myth, Legend, Romance at the Canadian Music Centre, 20 St. Joseph Street, Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 7:30.
Three of my concertos are on the CD: Persephone and Demeter, for violin, viola, and orchestra which we recorded with my daughter, Erika on violin, Rivka Golani on viola, and the Regina Symphony Orchestra; Sherwood Legendfor French horn with Kurt Kellan on horn and the Calgary Philharmonic; and my Concerto for Violin (Faces of Woman) with Erika and the Sneak Peek Orchestra recorded last spring in Toronto.
Rivka Golani happened to be touring Canada at this time and was able to stop over in Toronto on her way back to England so we scheduled the launch when she could be here to perform. She and Erika will be accompanied by Rachel Andrist in an abridged and narrated (by me) version of Persephone and Demeter. Also, Erika will play a movement of the violin concerto.
