HORN AND PIANO

Fantasy for French Horn and Piano  (1985) 7 min. This piece was originally for trombone and piano but on the request of hornist, Kurt Kellan, it was transcribed for horn and piano. It is of moderate difficulty, very melodic and romantic. It is published by Cherry Classics.

Romance for French Horn and Piano  (1992) 5 minutes. Also with chamber orchestra accompaniment. This piece was commissioned by the Concours de Musique du Canada as the test piece for French Horn. It is very melodic and romantic but not technically difficult. It was originally for horn and piano but the composer’s husband requested that she write a version for trombone and orchestra, so there are now versions for trombone, bassoon, and cello as well as the original for horn. Quartet for Horns  (1998) 12 min. Commissioned by the Canadian Horn Quartet for premiere at the International Horn summit in Banff, Alberta, in 1998. The members of the quartet were Martin Hackleman, Kurt Kellan, Joan Watson, and David Hoyt. There are four movements: Fanfare; Andante con Moto; Scherzo; and Echoes. Cherry Claassics

The Bushwakker Six Pack17min.  for horn, clarinet, and piano; Alternate versions for trumpet, clarinet and piano; horn, trumpet and piano; saxophone clarinet and piano, trumpet, trombone and piano; and for oboe trumpet and piano.This piece was commissioned by hornist, Kurt Kellan, and clarinettist, Don Oehler, in 2002 for premiere at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, March, 2003. The Bushwakker Brewpub is a popular watering hole in Regina where musicians often gather after concerts. The movements (Stubblejumper, Northern Lights, Screamin’ Mosquito Chili Beer, Last Mountain Lager, MacGregor’s Wee Heavy, and India Pale Ale) are named for the beers brewed at Bushwakker’s. The music can be obtained on free loan from the CMC.  This is the version for trumpet and trombone. CMC
